Those were two of the fallacies explored Saturday during a discussion between two heritage groups organized by environmental and economic justice organization Chainbreaker Collective.

After grimaces and laughs at the disinformation that has long plagued New Mexico and its Indigenous and Hispanic inhabitants, Anne Wheelock Gonzales shared a possible solution: “Maybe we should have all the newcomers attend a class,” she laughed.

A few dozen people came to the midtown campus to hear the conversation between leaders of the Santa Fe Indigenous Center, including Gonzales, and La Sociedad Folklorica de Santa Fe, a women’s Hispanic heritage organization.
