Santa Fe police investigators haven’t provided a potential motive for a stabbing Saturday that killed a homeless man, and court documents say there was no indication the victim and a man accused in the death were engaged in a physical altercation before the attack.

An arrest warrant affidavit on a count of first-degree murder for Chester Lemarc Patrick Gutierrez, 45, suggests investigators are leaning on the testimony of a woman who was standing nearby, in a median on Rodeo Road, when 32-year-old Reynaldo Corado-Medina was fatally wounded.

The woman had identified Gutierrez as the alleged culprit. Santa Fe police Deputy Chief Ben Valdez said he was arrested during a SWAT team operation Sunday evening at an apartment complex off Cerrillos Road, near the intersection with Zafarano Drive.
