Blue Jays manager John Schneider is frequently criticized for not letting his starters pitch deep into games, especially during the post-season.

There have been plenty of complaints over the years that the stubborn Jays too frequently rely on algorithms and pre-game planning as opposed to reacting in real time to what’s happening on the field.

The most commonly referenced example was when Schneider removed José Berríos after three scoreless innings in the 2023 wild-card series against the Minnesota Twins. Lefty Yusei Kikuchi entered that game and soon after the Jays were swept out of town.
