TEMPE, Ariz. — In an alternate universe, the unclogged rush lanes would instead be toilets.

The dirty work of a lineman would be replaced with the even dirtier work of a handyman.

And the forum wouldn't be the practice field, but instead the high-rise construction that towers in the distance.

ASU offensive lineman Makua Pule admits he almost went down a different path.

"To be honest, my dad wanted me to go to school. I didn't want to go to school," Pule said.

Pule said he almost let his football dream go down the drain.

"I was going to do plumbing. I was going to (work) under my cousin because he does plumbing," he said.

Pule's father, Shannon, set out to convince him otherwise.
