(WAND) - The high school boys' soccer postseason has led to both thrilling, last-minute victories, and convincing performances from local programs.
Regional action continued Saturday as Monticello played host to Pleasant Plains and Athens. After jumping out to a two goal lead, the Warriors faced pressure from the Cardinals who stole momentum late in the game. A pair of goals in the second half sent the game to extra time level at 2-2. In the first stint, teams traded blows, but with seconds remaining Athens mounted a counter-attack that led to a goal by Connor Mabus, just seconds before the horn. Pleasant Plains went full-attack in the second stint to try and draw level, but the Warriors held off the effort to clinch the regional crown 3-2. It's their first ever postseason trophy.
