An 11-year-old girl remains in a serious condition at the Royal Children’s Hospital after being critically injured in a crash in Melbourne’s east, with police investigating whether she was wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The girl and her four-year-old brother were travelling in the back seat of their family’s Toyota Corolla when it crashed into another car at the corner of High Street Rd and Wallace Rd in Wantirna South about 8.20pm on Thursday.

Police will allege the children’s mother failed to give way at the intersection and are also investigating whether both children were unrestrained in the back seat during the collision.
