Further calls have been made for action at a bird-infested town centre eyesore, which has been branded an “unhygienic health hazard”.

The neglected former Evans unit in Ashford has been left in a state of disrepair and is overrun with pigeons and covered in thick layers of bird droppings.

A planning application has been lodged with Ashford Borough Council (ABC) seeking listed building consent for the redevelopment of the site into six flats.

But any repairs on the site are for now on hold, with residents and councillors alike eager to see the empty shop, on the corner of High Street and North Street, cleaned up.

South Ashford resident, Joanne Veryard, described the building as looking “terrible”.
