San Jose has installed surveillance cameras in what it considers illegal dumping hot spots.

Twelve mobile cameras have been placed across the city at undisclosed locations, and they appear to be working.

Mayor Matt Mahan said in hot spots where cameras have been set up, illegal dumping has dropped by a third.

"We realized that we also have to invest in enforcement," Mahan said. "We need to hold people accountable for following our laws. They’re there for a reason."

NBC Bay Area's Damian Trujillo has more in the video report above.
