BLACKSVILLE — A thrilling Class A high school football battle at sixth-ranked Clay-Battelle on Saturday afternoon ended in heartbreak for third-ranked Sherman.

Down six late in the contest, the Cee-Bees pulled out a 16-14 victory thanks to a 75-yard touchdown pass by quarterback Corey Coen to Cody Clovis and a two-point conversion by Caleb Hall with 1:09 remaining.

On Sherman's last-gasp drive, signal-caller Eli Pauley was intercepted by Clay-Battelle's Cameron Mercer with 46 seconds on the clock.

"I don't have words to express the pure joy, exhilaration and excitement," Clay-Battelle coach Aaron LaPoe said. "I don't know. It's beautiful. It's art in motion. It's as creative as football can get. That kid catching that and doing that, Cody Clovis, that's some Picasso stuff."
