Amidst the hoopla surrounding the opening of the new Pittsburgh International Airport, little attention has been paid to an unfortunate backward step. I am 81 years old and disabled. My handicapped parking placard has afforded me a discounted parking rate in short term parking next to the terminal at a reasonable cost.

In an article in the Post-Gazette, airport spokesman Bob Kerlik says that the airport has been receiving complaints from travelers with physical needs who are having trouble finding accessible parking because of some people’s inappropriate use of handicapped spaces in the short-term parking lot (“Pittsburgh International Airport’s proposed solution to handicapped parking problems faces some pushback,” Apr. 9).
