But the evidence began to tell a different story as Montgomery police and forensic teams swept through the Bethesda home where Sue Ann Marcum’s body was found on Oct. 25, 2010. The 52-year-old American University professor lay lifeless at the bottom of her basement stairs in a heap of blood and broken glass, beaten and asphyxiated.
