If LSU fires coach Brian Kelly this season, it must pay him roughly $54 million — an amount large enough to become one of the most expensive buyouts in the history of college football.
Kelly is four years into the 10-year, $100 million contract he signed in 2022 to succeed Ed Orgeron as LSU’s head football coach. According to his term sheet , the school’s athletic department would owe him 90% of the remaining value of the contract should it fire him without cause at any point before the deal expires.
