As daylight grows shorter and cooler temperatures arrive, fall tends to be the time of year when life begins to slow down.

Every month on the calendar lists numerous commemorations and October is no exception, some meaningful — others just silly fun.

October includes Breast Cancer Awareness Day and serves as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. There's also National Pumpkin Spice Day, Coffee With a Cop Day, Boyfriend Day, Sweetest Day, Black Dog Day, Model T Ford Day, Hair Day and World Smile Day.

It also marks Columbus Day, or Indigenous Peoples Day, which has become an annual online brawl over whether we should acknowledge an explorer who made a wrong turn at Albuquerque, as Bugs Bunny would put it, or the people he named but actually never met.
