WEATHERFORD — Nothing seemed out of the ordinary on Sept. 11 when Erin Musil talked by phone to her son, Logan.

The 18-year-old had just started his freshman year at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford. The avid video gamer told her he needed a new computer monitor.

Logan also asked for a copy of his birth certificate, she remembered, so he could start his shifts at a McDonald’s in Weatherford. His mother said he had always been very motivated and self-sufficient. In high school he had shuttled between his family home in Wellston northeast of Oklahoma City, a McDonald's job in Perkins and his school in Carney, all about a half-hour from one another.
