While the NDP tried to castigate the opposition for “playing games” by raising the issue, without the Point Douglas Residents Committee (PDRC) sounding the alarm, a “sobering centre” for addicts would have been rammed through across from Argyle High School without the community being heard. It’s become a pattern that the government wants to steamroll inner-city residents — many of them past NDP voters — into complying with its misguided “harm reduction” agenda.
Last December, eagle-eyed residents spotted an application filed with Health Canada for a “supervised consumption site” in the same building. The NDP tried to push it through first by manufacturing community consent through limited public consultations.
