ATLANTA — Georgia's Attorney General Chris Carr is backing a petition that wants to change the way voters register for federal elections.

The petition, submitted by the America First Legal Foundation, proposes a rule requiring documentary proof of citizenship on the federal voter registration form.

Carr joined a 14-state coalition urging the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) to consider the new rule. He says the ruling is not partisan or political, but ensures only eligible Americans should vote.
