IOWA CITY — The 2023 meeting between Iowa football and Minnesota at Kinnick Stadium will long be remembered for the controversy surrounding Cooper DeJean’s fourth-quarter punt return. What would’ve been a go-ahead touchdown was wiped away due to an invalid fair catch ruling.

The pain of that call still lingers to this day.

But that game triggered something else. The Hawkeyes’ 12-10 loss was the final straw in the fate of heavily scrutinized offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz.
