A credit limit, according to Capital One , “is the maximum amount of credit a lender authorizes a borrower to use on a credit card or line of credit.”

If this credit drops, it can create a bit of a financial challenge, from restricting spending power to harming one’s credit score. And there are some states where this limit is falling the most.

A new report from WalletHub compared the average change in credit limit per resident between Q2 2024 and Q2 2025. Pennsylvania actually ended up ranking in 10th overall when it came to states where limits decreased the least.

Then there were Vermont, Alaska, and Wyoming, which ranked in third, second, and first, respectively, for states that saw the biggest credit limit decreases.
