When Kaya Gwinn, founder of Shiloh’s Animal Rescue , came across a heartbreaking photo of a terrified mother dog and her four puppies left behind in an orchard in Bakersfield, California, she knew she couldn’t ignore it.
Without hesitation, her rescue organization stepped in to save them, placing the little family in an emergency foster home.
The mother dog, later named Honey, was in terrible condition—underweight, covered in fleas and ticks, and suffering from an old hip injury that caused her to limp. Gwinn and her team suspected that Honey had been kept outside for most of her life and likely used for breeding.
After some time in temporary foster care, Gwinn decided to take Honey home to Los Osos herself. That’s when everything began to change.
