INDEPENDENCE, Mo. —
A suspect is recovering from a gunshot wound in a local hospital as the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigates an officer-involved shooting.
In a social media post sent just after 6 a.m. Sunday, MSHP Troop A said the shooting involved a member of the Buckner Police Department and happened near U.S. 24 and Blue Mills Road. Advertisement
In a press release, MSHP said at 1:24 a.m. Sunday, a Buckner PD officer was pursuing a vehicle westbound on U.S. 24 near Hoover Road.
As the suspect's vehicle got closer to Blue Mills Road, the vehicle crossed over to the eastbound lane and was briefly going the wrong direction.
The MSHP release says the suspect tried to turn around and hit the officer's car in the process. The officer then fired at the suspect's vehicle.
