In 2024, the greater Fairbanks and North Pole area enjoyed solid economic growth in construction, tourism and resource development fields, though it continued to carry the shoulder of high energy and housing costs.
In 2025 so far, it’s been a much less rosy outlook, according to the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation’s annual report .
“How the remainder of the year unfolds is yet to be seen,” the report states. “Much of the uncertainty is driven by federal priorities, tariffs and layoffs.”
According to the report, the overall outlook is split into thirds: 31% of overall respondents said the economy would worsen through 2025, 30% said it would improve. The rest are on the fence.
