Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered an immediate investigation after several children with thalassaemia were reportedly transfused with HIV-infected blood at Chaibasa Sadar Hospital in West Singhbhum district. The matter had earlier come to light when the Jharkhand High Court took cognisance of a seven-year-old child testing HIV-positive.

According to Soren’s social media post, families of the affected children will receive Rs 2 lakh each, while the state government will cover the full cost of treatment for all victims. He described the incident as “deeply distressing” and called for a full audit of all blood banks in the state within five days.
