Oregon ranks second as a U.S. state with the most incidents of shoplifting, second only to New Mexico.
The study was undertaken by the criminal defense law firm, Summit Defense .

Shoplifting in 2024 was based on data in the FBI’s Crime Explorer, which revealed that there were 675.98 incidents per 100,000 residents in Oregon. This is 79% above the national average.
The data showed that shoplifting in Oregon is most prevalent in August (61.51), November (59.87), and December (58.66).
Western states dominate the shoplifting top rankings. Top-ranking is New Mexico, with a shoplifting rate of 777.97 per 100,000 residents, more than double the national average. In January 2024, there were 82.04 incidents in
