Nick Mangold, one of the greatest players in New York Jets franchise history, died on Saturday night at the age of 41.

The former star center suffered from complications of kidney disease, a fight that he shared publicly in a social media post earlier this month.

"In 2006, I was diagnosed with a genetic defect that has led to chronic kidney disease," Mangold wrote in his post on Oct. 14. "I'm undergoing dialysis as we look for a kidney transplant. I always knew this day would come, but I thought I would have more time."

Mangold expressed his gratitude for his family, "who have been my rock every step of the way," but noted that he needed a kidney donor with type O blood while asking for help.
