Last week, we asked Herald readers if the Democrats’ health care fight was worth a government shutdown.

Readers responded with a resounding call to get back to work.

Of the 469 respondents, 72.5% said they did not feel Democrats should shut down the government for their health care demands, selecting “No, get back to work.”

Another 12.4% disagreed and chose “Yes, health care credits are key.”

“There should be a law against government shutdowns” received 9% of the vote, with another 6.2% saying they’ve “given up on Congress.”

These poll results come as the government shutdown approaches its fifth week, on track to become the longest shutdown in United States history. The current shutdown record fell during President Donald Trump’s first term, lasting 35 days.
