DETROIT, MI - A Michigan father who is battling a rare form of leukemia was released from immigration custody this month after a federal court ruled, he was unlawfully detained under a new Trump administration directive that denies bond hearings to many immigrants.

Jose Contreras-Cervantes, 33 from Romeo, was released Tuesday, Oct. 21 after spending more than two months in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention. During that time, lawyers say his access to cancer medication was disrupted.
