There’s a certain Pontius Pilate element to Prime Minister Mark Carney washing his hands of the mess left by predecessor Justin Trudeau.

Cabinet ministers now wringing their hands about the dreadful policies of the last decade are the same people who sat at the cabinet table and nodded as those decisions were made.

Last week, Justice Minister Sean Fraser announced changes to bail laws that were weakened by Trudeau’s government.

Fraser previously served in Trudeau’s cabinet as housing minister and immigration minister — files that both have been bungled over the past 10 years.

Fraser has now been unleashed on the justice system and says the government will toughen bail laws for violent offenders.
