QUINCY (WGEM) - On October 25, 1867, Saint Mary Hospital opened its doors to serve Quincy. Exactly 158 years later, former patients and providers are still talking about its storied legacy.
A new Adams County Bicentennial memorial commemorating the hospital was unveiled near the corner of 16th Street and Vermont Street Saturday, Oct. 25.
One former St. Mary administrator says the memorial is a testament to more than just the institution.
“To have a place where, not just the... institution of St. Mary Hospital is memorialized, but the many, many people that gave their entire lives to caring for people in this institution, is what’s critical to... this memorial,” said former St. Mary CEO and President Bill Metzinger.
