A recent string of E. coli cases in Washington and Oregon have been linked to cheese made from raw milk, according to the Washington Department of Health.

Two people in Washington and one in Oregon were confirmed to have contracted the infection. One of the patients is a child under the age of five.

The cases appear to be from the same strain of the bacteria due to their genetic fingerprints being near-identical. The individual from Oregon reported eating cheese from Twin Sisters Creamery before getting sick, which is made from unpasteurized milk.

Raw milk is not approved by the Food and Drug Administration, according to its website, and 20 U.S. states have restrictions or bans on its sale.
