HENDERSON COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office announced the death of a retired deputy who served in law enforcement for decades.

The sheriff’s office called David McMurray a “revered legend in law enforcement whose legacy will forever resonate across North Carolina and beyond.”

McMurray served in the United States Marine Corps, which the sheriff’s office called the “foundation of his courage and discipline.” McMurray then served in the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

After serving in the highway patrol, McMurray worked at Blue Ridge Community College as the coordinator of the Basic Law Enforcement Training program.
