(FOX40.COM) — The Modesto Fire Department battled a second-alarm fire that damaged multiple homes on Friday.

Officials said that crews responded to a residential structure fire around 11:33 p.m. on the 2800 block of Bateman Lane.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire from a single-story residence, resulting in a request for a second alarm.
The fire then extended to the backyard trees, which posed a threat to two adjacent homes and another property on Mission Bell.
Three attack lines were deployed to contain the fire, MPD said.
One home was left with significant damage and the other two were left with minor damages.
The Red Cross was contacted to help the occupants of the home that was imapcted.
