360,000 SNAP benefit holders are bracing for a pause on Nov. 1. The state’s Department of Social Services says it was told by the Food and Nutrition Service that funds for November won’t be distributed if the government shutdown continues.
“The federal government actually funds the benefits that go out to individual each month,” said CT Dept. Social Services SNAP Director Dan Giacomi in an interview on Wednesday. “In Connecticut, that’s around $72 million monthly that we distribute in SNAP benefits.”

He says he recommends people in need reach out to local food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens.
