LEWISTON, Maine —
Mainers spent their Friday remembering the Lewiston mass shootings and how they changed the community. Eighteen people were killed on Oct. 25 two years ago, several were injured.
Dozens standing on curbsides by Veterans Memorial Park with signs. From blue hearts, personal messages in honor of loved ones, and asking to honk to remember, the community united during a time of pain.
"People who are affected, directly affected, the families, the survivors, they're still hurting," said Sherry Monteith, a Lewiston resident.
The commemoration, meant to remember those who died at Just-In-Time and Schemengees. It's also meant to stand by survivors who are still healing from trauma, and support families who lost a loved one in the tragedy.
