GAFFNEY, S.C. - A devastating overnight fire has left a small Gaffney community mourning the loss of four people, including two children.

"Terrible. It was smoking up, in flames. I mean, the whole house was like just a bottle of smoke," neighbor Julia Wright said.

Chief of Gaffney Fire Department, Jamie Caggiano, said crews were called to East 3rd Street early Sunday morning for a house fire. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke and towering flames.

"Once they got here, one crew, went to go on fire attack for the front of the house. A second crew went around the back of the house because the neighbors, and the bystanders were telling us that the people were inside, were in the back," Caggiano said.
