A total of 2.9 inches of rainfall was recorded at the KJAS studios in east Jasper over the weekend beginning in the early hours of Saturday morning making local firefighters happy with hopes of the level of fire danger would come down.
On Sunday Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel Jr. cancelled the ban on all outside burning and a short time later officials in Jefferson County did the same.
So far the ban on burning remains in place here in Jasper, Newton and Tyler Counties. However, officials are expected to review in the Keetch Byrum Drought Index and other factors on Monday.
Foresters and other have said over the last few weeks that it would take a lot of rain to bring moisture levels back to where there were.
