Irecently asked Congressman Marcy Kaptur why Democrats are holdouts on funding the government. She sits on the Appropriations Committee. We agreed that our national budget is a moral document, not just a financial one. (I think Doctor King said that.)
She explained that there is no other leverage to keep health insurance affordable for tens of millions of Americans who benefit from Affordable Care Act subsidies. Many of these Americans live in states that voted for Trump and have large rural populations.

Experts say that if we allow more people to become uninsured in rural and low-income urban areas, more hospitals that serve these populations might close. Multiple studies find that being uninsured could be a ticket to bankruptcy court or even the mortuary.
