Shubman Gill had a tough beginning as India’s ODI captain, posting the lowest average by an Indian captain against Australia. Even with excellent performances in Test cricket, he continues to struggle in limited-overs games, putting his future leadership under scrutiny as young players wait in line. Shubman Gill. (PIC- X)
Shubman Gill’s debut as India’s ODI captain didn’t go as he would have hoped, as he set an unwanted record against Australia. In the three-match series, he managed scores of just 10, 9, and 24, averaging 14.33 – the lowest by an Indian captain in an ODI series against Australia. This put him below MS Dhoni, who averaged 17.20 in 2016, and Sourav Ganguly, who averaged 18.60 in 2001.
