SMITHFIELD – It doesn’t take long to deduce how Bryant arrived at this point in men’s soccer.

Any school in New England and beyond would crave the atmosphere Saturday night at Beirne Stadium. A line of cars snaking out to Route 7 waited to park until long after the scheduled kickoff with Vermont.

Fans jammed both grandstands and stood behind ropes that ringed what are typically the football end zones. They came to see the Bulldogs and Catamounts do battle in America East, the No. 2 team in the country and the defending national champions locking up in a conference thriller.
