HARDY, Ark. (KAIT) - A routine road trip from Colorado to Mississippi turned into an unexpected act of kindness when a Hardy police officer went beyond the call of duty to help a stranded family.
Terry Bynum and his family were driving through Arkansas between Oct. 18 and Oct. 19 when a tire came off their car on Highway 63 in Hardy. The lug nuts on the tire came loose, leaving the family stranded hundreds of miles from their home in Mississippi with nowhere to go.
When Bynum called 911, Hardy Police Sergeant Dan Gallagher responded to the scene. Instead of simply directing the family to safety, Gallagher loaded the entire family into his police cruiser, drove them to a hotel, and refused to let Bynum pay for the room.
