The Election Commission of India has announced a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 12 states and Union Territories on Monday.
Addressing a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said that after the completion of Phase 1 of SIR in Bihar, this will be the second phase.
Kumar said all poll-bound states and union territories in 2026 will be part of the SIR, which include Kerala Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. After the exercise the final electoral roll will be released on February 7, 2026.
The other states and UTs are Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.
