A driver going the wrong way on Interstate 495 died early Sunday morning after colliding with a tractor-trailer in Methuen, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office.

The crash happened shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday, when an Alfa Romeo Stelvio heading north in the southbound lanes hit a tractor-trailer near the exit for Route 213, the district attorney’s office said.

The driver of the Alfa Romeo, whose name was not released pending notification of their family, died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unhurt.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
