The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant the Delhi Police two weeks’ time to reply to the bail pleas of 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case accused Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam, Gulfisha Fatima and Meeran Haider, who are facing charges under the stringent Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

The bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N V Anjaria said it will hear the matter again on October 31. The court also suggested to Additional Solicitor General (ASG) S V Raju to “examine if you can also think of coming out with something on that date.”

‘We have granted sufficient time’

Raju initially urged the bench to grant him two more weeks to file the counter affidavit. He said he was appearing for the first time in the matter and was not aware of what had happened earlier.
