The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in which Cherokee County deputies shot an armed man at a residence, where authorities later found the body of his mother.

According to the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, at about 6:42 p.m. Saturday deputies responded to a welfare check call at a home on Whisperwood Trail near Acworth. There, they found an armed man who was shot and killed outside the home by deputies, the CSO reported.

The man was not identified by the sheriff’s office but was described as 26 years old and white.

A deputy was injured in the shooting and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
