Brian Kelly’s firing came after a “very tense” meeting with LSU’s athletic director.

Scott Woodward met with Kelly Sunday after the team’s ugly home loss to Texas A&M the day before and clashed over staff changes, according to The Athletic.

Woodward wanted Kelly to fire offensive play-caller Joe Sloan, but Kelly pushed for different staff changes that The Athletic said Woodward “wasn’t comfortable with.”

The meeting also included “threats about negotiating a settlement” of Kelly’s roughly $54 million buyout, The Athletic reported. The school said in its release regarding the firing that terms of the separation are still being negotiated.
