LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - As Halloween approaches, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) is reminding pet owners of simple steps they can take to help keep their animals safe and comfortable during the festivities.
Here are five safety tips from MDARD for this spooky season:
Unsafe Eats: Keep Halloween treats away from pets.
Candy is for trick-or-treaters—not your pets. Keep all sweets, especially those containing chocolate, raisins, and xylitol (an artificial sweetener found in many candies and gums), well out of reach. These ingredients can be toxic and cause serious health problems for animals.
