People born 'one day late' to miss £300 winter fuel payment after age change View Image

An expert has warned that individuals born after a certain date are set to miss out on next year's £300 winter fuel payment due to changes in the pension age. Paul Lewis, a regular contributor to Radio 4's Money Box programme, explained that people will not receive the payment next year - however, if some had been born just a day earlier, they would be eligible for the money.

This year, Chancellor Rachel Reeves reinstated the funds for over 9 million pensioners. For the winter period of 2025 to 2026, pensioners in England and Wales will receive between £200 and £300 per household for the Winter Fuel Payment, with £300 going to households where someone is aged 80 or above.
