ANCHORAGE — Governor Mike Dunleavy has appointed John Crowther as acting commissioner of the Alaska Department of Natural Resources, following the departure of John Boyle, who had led the department since January 2023.
Crowther, who has served as DNR’s deputy commissioner since 2021, brings more than a decade of experience within the department. He first joined DNR in 2012 and has overseen its oil and gas, project permitting, and geological survey divisions. Before returning to Alaska, Crowther worked in Washington, D.C. as director of the governor’s office and as a staffer for U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
