Yellowstone National Park staff responded to more than 30 auto accidents, stranded vehicles and slide-offs across the park on Sunday, prompting a closure of all roads south of Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyo.
The road between Gardiner and Cooke City remained open but all others were still closed as of 8 a.m. Monday morning.
Road conditions were being assessed on Monday to determine when they can safely reopen, the Park Service announced in a press release.
"This closure will allow road crews time to safely clear snow and address icy conditions," park officials said.
Additional heavy snow and high winds were forecast to continue though Sunday evening, further impacting visibility and road safety.
