HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) — Some good news for homeowners in a Hamden neighborhood that could use some.
On Monday, local officials highlighted millions of dollars in state help that could be coming to the Newhall neighborhood, near the old Hamden Middle School site. Decades ago, that area was used by Winchester Repeating Arms.
“They dumped a lot of industrial waste in this neighborhood many, many years ago, and then homes were built upon that industrial waste,” Mayor Lauren Garrett (D-Hamden) said.
Then, more than 20 years ago, they started a project to replace all the contaminated soil. That created another problem.
