COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Past and present Colorado Springs city officials are fondly remembering Merv Bennett, a community leader who died over the weekend.

“Our city has lost one of its finest citizens,” said John Suthers, whose tenure as Colorado Springs mayor overlapped with Bennett’s time with Colorado Springs City Council.

Bennett served for 40 years with the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, helping to grow the organization in the region. After retiring as its president and CEO in 2011, he ran for City Council.
